Johnson, who rapped under the moniker Straight Drop, has a history of criminal offenses, violence, and “links to organized criminal groups.” On January 11, Cornelius Smith, 32, was indicted for first-degree murder, weapons possession, and theft. On the same day, Johnson, 27, was arrested in Indiana after police received over 500 tips leading to his arrest.
For their roles in the murders, Johnson, Smith, and Barnett were charged as “after-the-fact accomplices .”Judge Lee Coffee gave Johnson and Smith a request after they tried to secure legal counsel: “No problem if you have a lawyer, but as I stated previously, I cannot let you remain in jail for weeks or months on end without one. Suppose you don’t get a lawyer by [February 4].
